Pleasance,
Calif. It
took Patrick Donavon half a minute to realize there was no one in any of
the rooms. But he could smell a perfume that seemed to linger. Before
heading back out, he spotted an impurity on the ground. It was blood. “No…”
Patrick moaned. Just
then, a scream shook him. He rushed past a setup of telephone equipment,
and peered through a small window. Looking through, he could see a scene. Kassie
Tom had been forced onto a boat, and it was pulling away. Out
to sea… “No!!”
Patrick cried out. Seeing this, he rushes to the exit and to the boat. “Did
you hear that?” Kassie said nervously. Colin was busily strapping chains
to her feet. “You aren’t going to attach anyone on me and declare it a
reality show, are you?” “Smart-ass.”
He pressed a lock between rusty chains, and it clicked. “And no. I
didn’t hear anything.” “It
sounded like—” Kassie stopped as she looked to the dock. Even though
the boat had started to back away, she could easily see who was there.
“Oh! Oh my God! It’s him. He came. He came!” Colin
fastened the final chain and turned around. “Oh, crap… Why does he
always have to make this so much harder for me?” Patrick
stood on the docks, and looked out to the departing boat. It wasn’t out
very far, but it was still very hard to get to. He saw Kassie with the
man, tied up and screaming. “I’m
coming…” Patrick vowed. Colin
turned to Kassie. “Shut up!” “No!”
she said defiantly. “Patrick! Please… He’s got Noah and me!! He’s
going to kill us both! His name is Colin!! Blonde hair! Late
twenties—” “Dammit,
shut up!” Colin lifted his hand and slapped her across the face. He went
down on his knees and grabbed her face in his hands. “You listen to me
you spoiled little bitch. This isn’t my hair color. Hell, why would I
use my real name? But it’s the principle.” Colin reached down and
picked up a gun. He put it against her head. “You say one more word. One
damn word and I’ll shoot you and this little baby right in the head in
front of Prince Charming.” Kassie
calmed herself down. The gun did it. Patrick,
on the dock, ran a distance and dove into the water. Colin
turned around, gun in hand. “Jeez… That guy isn’t going to give up,
is he?” In
the water, Patrick swam and grabbed on to a length of dragging rope. He
pulled himself closer and closer to the boat. Colin
attached weights to Kassie’s feet. “Well, it’s going to be a little
late now, isn’t it?” Presence
Apartments Giovanni
Pike was getting into his car. He had called Gillian’s house several
times and had left at least three messages. He was getting very sick and
tired of having her ignoring him. And
not knowing why. As
he started the ignition, the thought about where he was going. Natural
Exposure. Once
he arrived, he got out of his car. He needed to speak to Addy Evans. He
needed to get information on where Gillian was. So he could make
everything up to her. Torres
Residence Bo
Torres suddenly realized that he had left something he was going to send
to the police out in the open. He rushed to the front of the house and
grabbed his jacket. When he was confronted in the alley, he found a bag of
cocaine. “Where
is it?” he said, rummaging through his coat. He looked at the other coat
hanging on the chair by the front door. “Both Iris and I have similar
coats,” he remarked. It
wasn’t in either. “Who
could have taken it?” Checking
the time and calendar, he took his jacket. Exiting the house, he headed
for where Iris was working that day. Natural
Exposure. Natural
Exposure As
Brooke Wright pounded the keys on the elevator, Gillian Evans grabbed her.
“Let go. Please.” Brooke broke through and ran to the stairs and
started up them. Tess
saw this chase, and dialed for security. Iris
Torres couldn’t help but smile as she made her own way to the stairs and
started climbing. Addy
Evans slid up beside Tess, and listened to her as she ordered security.
Tess seemed genuinely frightened as to what might happen. The
phone rang on Addy’s desk. She picked it up. “Hello, Addy Evans
speaking.” “This
is security. We have a man down here by the name of Giovanni Pike. He told
us he needed to speak to you… And we have men coming up. Your floor’s
secretary is reporting a disturbance.” Addy
covered her forehead. The last thing she needed was Giovanni coming up
here. “I’ll be coming down to see him, okay?” As
Addy hung us she could imagine that things were going to get worse. Then
she saw something on her desk. A piece of paper. She picked it up. “Addy.” Brooke
probably left it, she assumed. Addy opened the message and read it. Once
she reached the end, she lifted her head up incredulously. “Oh, my
God…” She remembered she was going to go downstairs to see Giovanni. Brooke
grabbed the handle to the finale door violently, and opened it up. A gust
of wind hit her hard, but she walked out onto the building’s roof. She
carefully made her way under spare beams. “Brooke!”
Gillian screamed, coming on the roof right after her. “What are you
doing here?” Both
women were breathing deeply, having run up several floors. “Doing
something I should have done a while ago!” Brooke answered, making her
way to the edge. She placed her hands on the raised concrete, and then her
foot followed. Gillian
paused, and tried to assess the situation. Brooke was obviously upset, and
she was climbing to the ledge on the top of a tall building. She
was going to jump! “Brooke!
Don’t!” Gillian came close. “Why would you?” Brooke
turned to her. “All those things you said about me downstairs were true.
I have done so many horrible things, and I don’t even know why. I
practically ruined your relationship with Giovanni giving you that tape.
And I let your mother talk me into trying to sabotage your relationship!
What kind of person does that?!” Gillian
paused to think. “Brooke, I know I may have said some bad things to you
downstairs, but this is no answer. Killing yourself won’t solve
anything!” “But
I’ll get attention,” Brooke said, almost laughing, and then she looked
down. “I’ve never gotten attention in my whole life. Not even from my
parents. I never told you about them, did I? I just lived in the shadow of
my sister. My damn sister.” Gillian
came closer. “Please get down. We can talk about this…” Brooke
laughed in her face. “What will I do once I get down? Nothing. What the
hell can I do supporting a child? I don’t have money!” “Child?”
Gillian questioned. “You don’t have a kid.” Brooke
nodded. “Oh, yes I do! I came over here to give Addy the message. I am
very pregnant. And I’m taking the child down with me.” Gillian
was left aghast, standing in the cold wind. They stared at each other. Consuelos
Residence Mateo
Consuelos stepped forward to help Brianna Huber, but Skye Lore let out a
scream. She let go of the wrist, and both Mateo and Brianna backed away. “Ooooo!”
she let out. “It’s coming.” Brianna,
panicked, said, “What?” “The
baby, stupid!” she puffed. “It’s coming!” Brianna
was insulted, but figured it was better not to question her words. She
was, after all, a woman possessed by a demon. It was understandable once
seen at that angle. Brianna
had an epiphany. “Mateo,”
Brianna whispered, moving over to Mateo. “I have a strange feeling. It
is a good feeling, but it’s also a bad one.” Mateo
nodded. “You, too?” Brianna
stared at Skye huffing and puffing, her husband consoling her. “You know
Father McMurdy. He kept going on and on about the horrors the child would
bring to this world. I don’t think he ever actually mentioned the child
itself being the horror.” Mateo
paused and looked at her. “What are going on about?” “Just
hear me out,” Brianna said, collecting her thoughts. “Skye is
possessed, right? Well, I’m no expert of demons or whatnot, but one
demon can’t split into two. It doesn’t work that way. I remember…
God, it must have been in Sunday school when I was little… I remembered
the teacher answering questions about The Exorcists. It was the latest
movie out in the 70s. All churches gave sermons about possessions at that
time, I guess. Well, demons are stuck with their selected host until
exorcised.” “So
Skye will remain possessed?” Mateo asked. Brianna
shrugged. “They never mentioned pregnancy. This is completely out of my
mind. I could be wrong… but I have a feeling this child won’t be evil.
They’ll try and make it evil.” “How?”
Mateo asked. As
if to answer him, the ground began to shake. At first a few things around
dropped to the ground, but then plates started to shatter. “I
think we’ll find out,” Brianna said worriedly. Ian
looked around. “Are we getting another earthquake?” “It’s
a little different than that,” Brianna answered simply. “Is
it getting hot?” Mateo asked. Brianna
nodded. “Cover your eyes.” At
that moment, a giant flame came up from the base of Skye’s feet. Brianna
and Mateo backed up. Ian, shocked, shot up and rushed to his wife. The
flame drew a fiery circle from her feet to her head. The flames danced
like demons. “Is
that it?” Brianna laughed. She
jinxed it. A
blast pushed Ian back to the other side of the room, smashing against a
cabinet. Brianna screamed, and ducked as flames shot out. “It
this it?” Mateo wondered. That
was when Brianna saw the demons crawling out from the ground. St.
Peter’s Catholic Church “Now.
If anyone has reasons why these two should not wed, speak now, or forever
hold your peace.” A
pause. “I
object!!” Rachel Wright said, standing up. “And it’s because I’m
pregnant with James’ child!” Collective
gasps arose from the main people there. Gloria Benton looked over to
James, and James was glaring down to Rachel. “Very
well,” Father McMurdy continued. “The husband may now kiss the
bride.” What?
Rachel thought. She blinked a few times, and saw both James and Gloria
standing up at the alter. They were looking at each other lovingly. She
had imagined it. A
fantasy. And
they both kissed. Rachel
reached down to touch her stomach. She was now very pregnant, and she
could feel the child inside of her. She looked back up at James. The
father. “I’m
a fool,” Rachel stated simply, shaking her head. “I’ve spent all
this time trying to get closer to a man who is renewing his vows with his
wife!” She went back to remembering the night she had spent with James,
got him intoxicated and made love. “Rachel!”
Gloria burst out, coming down. “You look like you’re thousands of
miles away.” Rachel
looked up and smiled. “I guess I am. I’m just thinking about Great
Cape. I don’t think I’ve left my daughter alone this long before.” “I’m
sure she’s fine,” Gloria assured her. Before
James took his wife’s hand, Rachel popped up. “Oh! I have a gift for
you two.” Gloria
turned around. “You shouldn’t have.” “I
wanted to. Just for being such a great friend.” Rachel reached into her
pockets and pulled out the two ruby doves… “They’re both doves,” Cassandra said. “They are carved from ruby, and placed on the silver circle. The pendant’s silver is encrusted with small diamonds. Very expensive. But for you. I have no need for it.” Rachel smiled. “I give one to Gloria?” “Yes,
and you wear the other. Legend has it that when two people wear it, the
one who gives it has brought bad luck to the recipient.” James
pulled Gloria aside. “They’re a little expensive, don’t you think?
Look at them: ruby, diamonds, silver… they must be worth a fortune.” Gloria
nodded, and turned to Rachel. “I can’t accept these,” she said
regretfully. “They must be worth a lot, and you need the money a lot
more than I do, with the baby coming and all.” “I
got a great deal, and they were given to me by my ex-husband… Brooke’s
father… They only bring back bad memories, but with you two, they can be
restored with happy ones.” Rachel smiled, and started again. “You can
make a wish on it, too. I never did. But you should.” Gloria
smiled. “Thanks.” Rachel
only smiled. Slyly. Pleasance,
Calif. Patrick
pulled himself along the rope until his hands touched the cool side of the
boat. It seemed slightly old, but was moving along steadily. The weight of
his clothes seemed to weigh him down, and he was glad he had dropped his
shoes. Securing
himself on the side, he removed his shirt to shed the pounds dragging him
down. The warm Californian air made sure he didn’t freeze, though he did
have an undershirt. “Did
you hear that?” Colin asked. No
answer. “You
can speak.” “No,”
Kassie answered, then going back into silence. A dark bruise was on her
face, evidence of the slap. Colin
prepped his weapon, looking to the back of the boat. He couldn’t see
anyone there, but he knew that Patrick man was there. “All
right,” Colin started, getting over to Kassie. “Time for you to go
now. Mr. Danger over there won’t stand a chance in Hell of saving your
sorry ass.” He grabbed her roughly by the chained arms and pulled her
up. Bang! A
gunshot rang out on the boat, and Colin turned around just to discover her
was shot in the arm. He fell to the deck in a heap at Kassie’s feet.
Kassie looked up to see Patrick, half-drenched, and shirtless. She dragged
herself with her chains over to him and he hugged her. (Due to her chained
arms, she couldn’t hugs back.) “You
saved me,” she said gratefully. “Again, I think. What is this, the
third time?” “You
saved me during that earthquake,” Patrick reminded her. “Jeez…
We’ve been together about a year and we’ve already done everything in
the book.” Kassie
smiled, and tried to hug him, but couldn’t move her arms. “Dammit…
the bastard has the keys. I’ll get them.” Patrick
rushed over to check Noah, who was lying down on the rickety deck. Stepping
over Colin’s lifeless body, Kassie turned him over. His eyes were opened
in a frozen look, and by the amount of blood, it looked like it had been
more than an arm shot. “I
think you got him in the heart,” Kassie noted. She rummaged through his
jeans pockets, knowing the keys were there. “All
the better,” Patrick returned. He held little Noah in his arms. Retrieving
the keys, Kassie tried to unlock herself, but it wasn’t possible in her
position. “Patrick, can you help me?” Patrick
looked over from Noah. “Problem?” She
nodded. She then looked back at Colin, whose eyes were closed in a
peaceful sleep. “It’s the—” Closed
eyes? “Patrick?”
Kassie said, worriedly. “Do dead men close their eyes?” Patrick
looked over again. “What do you mean?” Kassie
got up, her heart pounding and she heavy chains rattling. Colin’s face
didn’t change. Was she imagining it? “It’s just that—” His
eyes opened. Kassie
screamed. “God… His eyes just opened!” Colin’s
face was bloodied, but very much alive. He smiled at her as she panicked.
She was right on the edge of the boat, and could see the ocean below. He
looked too weak to kick her in any way. Patrick
placed Noah down and rushed over. “No…
rescue… this time…” Colin gurgled, blood oozing from the corners of
his mouth. His hands shook as he lifted them, but Kassie looked down in
horror. A
gun. In
his hands. “Noo!!”
she cried out. A
shot rang across the ocean and boat. Patrick
stopped in front of Colin as he saw this. His heart sank horribly as he
saw what happened. Kassie’s
screams were cut shot as the bullet cut through the side of her throat. As
if in slow motion, she dropped the keys, brought her hands to her throat,
and the weight brought her tumbling over the side. Into the ocean. Patrick
rushed to the side once to see rippled and a body sinking faster and
faster… Presence
Memorial Hospital Darla
Tom was sitting up in her hospital bed. Everything had happened so quickly
the day before: she had been diagnosed with uterine cancer, and her
daughter had probably been kidnapped. “Try
and relax,” Nurse Betty cooed, giving her some pills. “The
chemotherapy treatment is necessary if the cancer is to disappear.” Darla
nodded, wishing her daughter was with her. St. Peter’s Catholic Church James
pulled Rachel aside from Gloria to have a talk. “What do you think
you’re doing? You know damn well you’re no friend of the family. Not
at all! And now you’re giving gifts?” Rachel
shifted away. “I was just trying to do the right thing. You know, get in
good. I’m not going to ask you for any more money. Think of it as a
peace offering.” Meanwhile,
Gloria moved over to Father McMurdy. “Father?” “Yes,
dear?” He came closer to her. “I’d
like to thank you very much for doing this whole ceremony. I know that you
must have a full timetable. Your niece was just so kind to set this up.” “Niece?”
Father McMurdy asked, but then he remembered talking to Rachel the
previous evening… The priest shook his head. “I sense many lies in you, young woman. I will not participate in your web of deceit. Whatever story you’ve made, I will not take part.” She
had wanted him to lie. She wanted him to pretend to be her uncle. “Mrs.
Benton. I’m afraid that Ms. Wright lied to you saying I was her uncle. I
am not.” Gloria’s
smile faded. “What?” “I’m
sorry you had to hear. She has obviously gotten herself into a lot of
trouble, and I’m not sure what I can do to help her.” “She
lied to me,” Gloria murmured. “Why? Why would she lie about that?” Father
McMurdy coughed. “Could it be about the father of the baby? She spoke
with me last night, and she told me the baby’s father would be coming to
the ceremonies today.” Father McMurdy observed Rachel. “My, I see you’re pretty much at term. Is it safe to presume that the baby’s father will be attending this ceremony?” Rachel
smiled. “Of course.” “I
haven’t met the father,” Gloria stated. “And she has refused any
details whatsoever. I guess there’s no pushing her.” Gloria turn to
see James, and he was in some heated argument with Rachel. “Does
your husband know Ms. Wright very well?” Father McMurdy asked. Gloria
shook her head. “Not that I know of. They have, though, been getting
into little tiffs each time they’re around each other. I wonder—”
Gloria gasped. “What
is it?” Gloria
shook her head, and covered her forehead. “No… It’s just my
imagination.” She looked back to Rachel and James. Father
McMurdy’s words rang around her head. “…She told me the baby’s
father would be coming to the ceremonies today… She told me the baby’s
father would be coming to the ceremonies today…” Gloria
shook her head. “Nothing… Just my—” She took another look, this
time quite unsure. “—Imagination…” Unknown
Location, Anywhere in the World The
young woman was tied up in a room. Consuelos
Residence Brianna
just took a moment to gather the information her brain was processing. It
prevented her from screaming like a madwoman and being hauled away. Skye.
Brianna peered through the flames, as they had receded slightly. She could
see a demon coming forward, and approaching Skye. Brianna could hear the
faint cry of a baby. It had been born. And a demon wanted it! Skye
looked motionless. She couldn’t fight… “No!”
Brianna cried out, lunging through the flames and grabbing the demon. She
pulled for the baby, and got it in her hands. The demon cried out. It
tried to fight back, but they obviously had no energy. “They’re
leaving!” Mateo said, shocked at Brianna’s bravery. Then
the living room exploded. Prescott
Road “What
a beautiful ceremony!” Rachel sighed, walking down the road. “And a
beautiful day!” Gloria
and James had both changed, and were in more-or-less normal clothing.
Gloria had wanted to go for a walk, so instead of climbing up Mystique
Road, they went down and turned left on this quaint road. Gloria
eyed Rachel, and then shook her head. Her
thoughts were crazy. “Look!”
Rachel announced. “Police cars… I wonder what could be causing such a
ruckus in as small town like this…” Outside
Natural Exposure “What
are you doing here?” Addy demanded to Giovanni. Seeing
the security, Giovanni grabbed her arm and pulled her outside. “I need
to know where Gillian is. Do you know?” Addy
laughed. “She was here, and she chased Brooke Wright up a flight of
stairs. Man, did she look pissed over something.” Giovanni
was confused. “Why would she—?” Just
then, a group of security officers rushed outside. “Everybody, clear the
area!! We have gotten word of a disturbance on the building’s roof!
Please, clear the area!!” Addy
and Giovanni obeyed, wondering what exactly was going on. Many
pedestrians’ curiosity got the better of them, and they wanted to see
what was happening. “What
is going on?” Giovanni demanded. Addy
looked up to the roof, putting on her glasses. “Oh… my… someone is
standing on the ledge!! I think it’s Brooke!!” Bo
parked his car in the parking lot, and the gathering of people immediately
pulled his attention. There were security men and police cruisers pulling
up. “What the hell—?” “Officers?”
Bo asked. “What is going on?” The
officer had in his hands a roll of ‘Police Line – Do Not Cross’
yellow tape. “There is a woman on the ledge. We are trying to clear the
pavement.” Bo
looked up and could see her. “Oh my God…” Rachel
led both James and Gloria into the mass of people. “Officers… Is it
true a woman is threatening to jump?” The
officer turned to her. “We don’t know anything right now.” Gloria
turned to James. “I don’t like this at all,” she said shakily. Natural
Exposure: Roof “Pregnant?”
Gillian asked. “Is it—?” “Giovanni’s
baby? Damn right! I got pregnant making love to your man. How sleazy is
that. And I don’t even remember it! It is just a blur in my mind! A damn
blur!” Gillian
approached her. “Things like this can be fixed. There is adoption, and
even abortion. I will help you through this. You have to believe me.” Brooke
looked hesitant for the first time. “No kidding?” “You’re
on a ledge!” Gillian stated. “Would I kid at something like this?” Brooke
looked to her. “And it’s a child, right? A child is big
responsibility… but I’m up to it. I—I can get a good job.” “There
are several promotions available at the Beach Hut,” Gillian said,
smiling. “Better pay… You can make this work.” Brooke
smiled. “You’re right.” Gillian
came closer and pulled out her hand. This could have been a lot worse than
it was, and she was very greatful for that. “It
is far?” Gillian asked. Brooke
nodded. “Kind of dizzying. You know, and with the loose pebbles up her
it’s—” Brooke put pressure on one foot, but she lost footing and her
legs gave way. “Woah—” Gillian
burst forward to catch Brooke. No
luck. Brooke’s
leg went over the edge, and she tried to grab on with her hands, but she
couldn’t get a proper grip on the cold stone. Gillian
got to the ledge and looked over in horror as she saw Brooke fall, her
limbs flailing around. Screaming all the way down. “Nice
job!” Gillian
turned around to see Iris standing behind her. Right then and there
Gillian knew that Iris had either completely changed, or was really an
imposter. Outside
Natural Exposure “Everybody!!”
the officers cried out. “Get away from the front of the building
immediately! Leave room for the medics!” Pedestrians
were screaming as they scattered. Addy
looked up to see Brooke fall. “Oh God…” she muttered. “She’s
falling!!” Giovanni saw this and almost choked on his throat. He grabbed
Addy and pulled her to him, shielding her eyes. Bo
saw it, too. His eyes weren’t like they used to be, but he could tell
when a woman was falling from a building. “James,
let’s go!” Gloria insisted. “I don’t want to be here…” James
came up to his wife. “Of course…” Rachel
looked back, wanting to be part of the excitement. “Uh, James… was is
that sound?” They
all stopped to listen. “It
sounds like a bee…” James commented. But then he stopped. “Not, a
yell. A—” James turned to Gloria. “Oh my God!!” Gloria
froze as the sound of a woman screaming finally became clear, and it
stopped as soon as she heard a sickening “crunch” on the pavement
behind her. “Don’t
turn around…” James warned, grabbing Rachel and holding her. But
she did. The
body of Brooke Wright was motionless in front of them, her neck horribly
bent and gash from eye to eye. The body separated her from her husband. Gloria’s
knees buckled, and she let out a horrified scream. Natural
Exposure: Roof “I
see you pushed her over,” Iris said calmly. “And all over a fight over
drugs. What a shame.” “I—”
Gillian stuttered, and realized she was in a very bad situation. She
looked over to Iris who had a look of pure hate in her eyes. “You know
the drugs I have aren’t mine. And she tripped! I never pushed her!” Iris
smiled. “Says… you.”
